Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA)
Zahra Fuladvand, a visionary Iranian visual artist and PhD graduate from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts DLA School, pioneers the integration of performative arts within unconventional natural spaces. Her work, characterized by innovative performances in non-traditional settings such as Budapest's Metro Line 2 and public streets, alongside video art created in a hospital room, challenges and redefines audience engagement outside the conventional theatre environment. Her exploration aims to uncover the nuanced relationship between performance, audience, and space, with notable projects including "The Mirror," "280 Days," and "14 Days."
Fuladvand's contribution to the arts extends beyond her performances to significant roles in education and production. With a rich background in directing and performing, including leading roles in international festivals and contributions as a drama teacher and course instructor, she has influenced a broad spectrum of artists in Iran, Oman, and Hungary. Her doctoral thesis, "Community, Place, and Environment in Ritual Performance," encapsulates her profound investigation into the intersection of place, environment, and community within Persian Passion Theatre and beyond, affirming her status as a key figure in contemporary performative arts.
Zahra Fuladvand has made significant contributions to the Iranian theatre scene, notably at the International University Theatre Festival where she served as dramaturge and director consultant for "The Tuneless Destiny" (May 2014), and directed and designed "The Bacchae," which not only participated in the 16th festival (May 2013) but also had a successful run at the Arasbaran Cultural Center (September 2013). Additionally, her roles in "Gilgamesh" and "Iranian Carpet," directed by Babak Mohri, highlighted her versatility as a performer, stage manager, and in international public relations, showcasing her work at the 30th Fajr Theatre Festival and at Av Theatre House (2012).
Zahra Fuladvand has garnered extensive experience in the performing arts and education sectors. From 2014 to 2017, she served as a Drama Teacher at Al Shomoukh International Kindergarten in Muscat, Oman, and simultaneously contributed as a member, actress, and choreographer at the Aspirations Theatre Academy for children between 2015 and 2017. Expanding her expertise internationally, she led the "Professional Presentation" course in English at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, within the Scenography Department and DLA school, from January 2018 to 2022, blending her passion for theatre with academic instruction.
Zahra Fuladvand's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Directing of Theatre from Shiraz Azad University, nurturing a foundational passion for the performing arts. She advanced her studies at Tehran Art University, earning a Master of Arts in Directing of Theatre, during which she founded her own theatre group, focusing on environmental performances. Zahra further pursued her education at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, completing a Doctoral program in Performing Arts. Beyond her academic achievements, Zahra has collaborated with numerous Iranian and European theatre companies since 2012, including the Tehran-based Av theatre group, Poland's avant-garde OPT Gardzience, and the Artus Creative Studio in Budapest.
